Jewel Cave Visitor Centre

Civilcon successfully tendered for the construction of a new visitor centre at Jewel Cave near Augusta. Construction began in early 2010. Due to the close proximity of the building to the cave special precautions were taken to minimise the risk of potential damage to the cave. Limestone rock was encountered whilst excavating the underground cave access-way. As a rock-breaker could not be used due to vibration, a special expanding grout was drilled into the rock and hydraulic splitters were used to break apart the rock which was then removed from site.
